About the Mt Hawthorn Hub

The hub brings together local residents and business who want to maintain the unique identity of Mount Hawthorn and make it a welcoming place to live, work and play.

Aims of the Hub
To provide a forum for residents, retailers and community groups within the Mount Hawthorn Hub Precinct.
Encourage and promote the unique diversity, lifestyle and retail environment in the Mount Hawthorn Hub.
Build a unique sense of identity through the organisation of local events, creative projects and streetscape improvements.
Improve security, lighting and accessibility in the area.

Sally Smith

Vice Chair

Sally bought her first home in Mt Hawthorn in 1994 and has lived in the suburb ever since. She ran a small successful business for the last ten years at the local shopping centre and it was through her business experiences and strong desire to help promote and enhance the suburb she lives in that Sally volunteered her time to the Mt Hawthorn Hub in 2014.

Sally is the current Vice Chair.

Michelle Scholz


Michelle has been living in Mt Hawthorn for nearly 25 years, from Uni days, to teaching ‘at risk’ youth, to becoming partners in a local (now national) environmental consulting firm. Still located in Mount Hawthorn, Michelle has managed the accounts for the last 12 years. Now stepping back with 2 children at the Primary School, Michelle now wants to give something back to the area she has fallen in love with.

Michelle joined the Hub in 2015 as the Treasurer, and sees the Hub as a network that brings all types of passionate people together within one suburb, working towards the same goal of a ‘real community’.

Sophie Brinklow

Sophie has lived in Mount Hawthorn for 20 years and has three children all of whom attended the local primary school. She left a long term  career in aviation to work in the area of property which has always been a passion. Working in real estate for five years before starting a role at the Mezz Shopping Centre as Client Services Manager her role gives valuable insight into the needs of retailers and local customers and provides her with the ability to build solid relationships with key members of the community.

Passionate about the benefits of volunteering, Sophie joined The Mount Hawthorn Hub over a year ago and is on the Events team.

Munira McKay

Executive Member

Munira has lived in Mt Hawthorn since 2007. She has one adult daughter, a cat and husband Malcolm, with whom she operates Mackay Urbandesign as a home-based business.

Munira is a UK-registered Architect and qualified Urban Designer with a passion for creating walkable neighbourhoods, great public places and things to do for the community and quality architecture that respects the context.

Munira joined the Mt Hawthorn Hub Streetscapes Sub-committee in 2015 and the Executive Committee in 2017. She is also a member and Chair of the City of Vincent’s Design Advisory Committee and a member of the North Perth Common Working Group.
